A simple touch, or a softly spoken word in his ear, and he was at her feet, purring like a punk-ass kitten. Trent vowed he would convince her to stay because he planned to use his mouth, his tongue, his dick, his love for her—anything at his disposal.

So finally, when she took her first step around the corner and caught his eyes, he nearly rammed through passengers to grab her. Instead, he steadied his feet and waited for her to come closer. A smirk played across his lips as she cocked a brow. Huffing her carry-on over her shoulder, she sped up until they were face to face.

Trent took in her form-hugging white shorts, extremely high heels, and gold silk top. He could think of nothing other than those garments forming a messy pile on his bedroom floor. Her soft springy curls were pulled back with a hair tie and Trent’s first move was to reach out and free those curls.

Teal didn’t speak as she turned her head to the side to help him ease the tie from her hair. Dark, plush curls bounced around her round face as dark eyes greeted his. She’d lost some weight and Trent’s first goal was to feed her ass, and feed her well. Healthy shit of course, since she suffered from high blood pressure. He wanted to keep her healthy, yet he desired those luscious curves too. But at that moment, he realized it didn’t really matter what size she ended up. He was in love with her, no matter what.

Teal dropped the bag at his feet. “So, you make me come all the way here, and you couldn’t meet me closer when I got off the plane? I guess you didn’t miss me that much after all.” Her soft voice and teasing tone belied her stern expression, which soon turned into a pout.

Trent leaned in and nipped her bottom lip, tasting her cherry Chapstick. His chest rumbled, and his voice was low and full of desire. “Woman, shut up and get your ass in my truck, before I yank them shorts down and show all of these people in this airport just how much I missed you.” Pulling her close, he allowed her to feel his desire, and the fact he was actually seconds from doing just what he’d said.

Her soft gasp had his dick jumping in his pants. Her breaths quickened as she placed her head against his chest and wrapped her arms around his body.         “Brut.” Her words held no vehemence. “I’ve missed you, baby.”

Trent’s chest tightened at her words. She would no longer need to miss him. He’d prepared a home for her, here in Kentucky.

Placing his arms around her, he hugged her back. “I missed you too, now come on. Let’s go home.” Trent ignored the way her body stiffened at the word, but didn’t let it shake his resolve. He’d convince her to stay, one way or another.

She released him. “I hear you can make some good barbeque. Is that true?”

Trent bent and picked up her bag. “Putting me to work already?” Hefting it over his shoulder, he turned and placed his hand on her lower back, guiding her toward the exit.

Sliding an arm behind him, Teal leaned into Trent. “But I’m starving.”

He glanced at his watch. “Babe, it’s almost noon.” He caught sight of her frown. “You should have at least eaten breakfast.” When she told him she’d forgotten to eat in her haste to make the flight, he tried to remember if he had everything he needed to make his woman some barbeque, or if they needed to stop at the store before they went home.

Teal’s soft skin rubbed against his, soothing his unease with being in such a crowded space. With a quick trip to luggage claim, they were back in his truck and headed down the highway.

Trent placed his arm over the back of Teal’s headrest. “So, how was the flight, baby?”

She smiled. “It was nice. I’m glad you chose first class.”

He tried his best to focus on the road ahead of them, but had to touch her. Moving his arm from the headrest, he gently took Teal’s hand. Giving her a quick wink, he brought the back of her hand to his lips. “I know this is a shitty welcome home kiss, but if I put my lips on yours, I won’t stop there.”

Incarcerated - IversonFINAL-ebooklg.JPG

Blushing profusely, Katie smiled. “Thank you, Scott. I like your voice, too. I wasn’t sure how you’d sound, but I like the light Southern accent.”

“Shit, honey, you should hear me when I’m angry. I can make every word one syllable and a paragraph turns into four words.”

She laughed. “Oh yeah?”

“Yeah. I honestly thought you’d sound more Southern, ‘cause you said you were from Virginia.”

“Yes, I am, but I’m from Alexandria. It’s far up north, close to DC, so I don’t really think I have an accent. If you go further down around Suffolk, Virginia Beach, or even to the west, like Clarksville, you’ll hear a bit of the South.” Katie relaxed a bit as she talked to Scott about her hometown.

Though while growing up, the place was stressful, it was still familiar and helped erase a bit of the stress in her life. “Now, if you go north all the way up to New York, they’ll call you a Southerner, but if you head down to South Carolina, they’ll call you a Yankee!”

She and Scott laughed, and Katie couldn’t help but enjoy the timbre of his voice. Heavy and deep, the sound traveled through the phone and settled in her ear, pleasing the part of her that missed a man’s voice.

“You don’t sound the least bit Southern to me.”

Katie scooted back in her chair and got comfortable. The muscles in her neck loosened, and she took a deep breath. “Of course not, Mr. Kentucky, you are west of Virginia.”

Logan chuckled. “True.”

There was a moment of silence, and Katie almost panicked, but instead she thought back to the letter he’d sent her. “Hey, why did you really want me to tell you a deep, dark secret? Planning to use it against me later?” She chuckled nervously. If Scott ever found out that Katie was the warden’s daughter, would he use her words against her?

“Yeah, about that . . . Kristen, I just thought you might need to talk to me about something. I say this because, when a woman reaches out to a stranger, a convicted felon no less, there might be something behind it. You told me you had friends, so I’m wondering what’s going on in your life that has you reaching out to a stranger instead of your friends.”

Good question. “Hmmm . . .” She didn’t really have to think about it, but she needed to stall for time. She wasn’t sure what she was going to say to him. However, Scott was smarter than she gave him credit for and called her out.

“What’s this, ‘Hmmm’? You know what it is, and I think you want to tell me.” Scott’s voice lowered, and if possible got even sexier, but Katie ignored the warmth in her belly and focused on his words. At her silence, he added, “You want me to go first?”

Her mouth moved before she even knew it was happening, and she whispered, “Please.”

He wasn’t silent long, but she still felt his hesitance. “Shit, honey, I’m not even sure if these calls are recorded or not.”

“Yes, they are.” Katie knew this for a fact.

“Okay . . . but I’m still gonna do it. I’ll still tell you because I can’t expect it from you and not do the same in return, right?”

“Right.” Katie was nervous for her turn, but curiosity about Scott and his maybe dark deeds excited her to the core. He was in prison, and Katie could think of a million things he could confess to her. “Don’t tell me anything illegal, Scott,” she pleaded. She wouldn’t tell a soul, but she also wouldn’t be able to talk to him anymore.

Gruff laughter emerged from the phone. “Honey, I wouldn’t sully your ears with more of my crimes if I had any. You aren’t a priest, and I ain’t asking for your forgiveness. Just your time and your honesty.”

Katie didn’t speak. Actually, she was relieved he was so frank with her.

Scott coughed, and lowered his voice to a whisper. “Okay, a deep, dark secret. After this call, I’m going to go back to my cell, lay in my bed, and think of what it would be like to make love to you.”

Bumbling idiot that she was, Katie dropped the phone . . . and in her several attempts to pick it up again, she pressed about twenty buttons. Once the phone was back to her ear and she’d settled down, she expected to hear Scott laughing, but was greeted with silence.

“Shit, I hung up on him,” she whispered dejectedly.

“No you didn’t, sweetheart. I’m still here.”

Katie wasn’t sure if she should be relieved or hang up. “Oh, okay.”

Still, there was no chuckle on the other end. “I didn’t mean to embarrass you. I was just being honest.”

Katie took a deep breath and placed her head down on the desk. “I appreciate that, Scott, but my secret isn’t that I want you in my bed, it’s darker and more painful than lust.” And with that, Katie hung up the phone.

“Shit.” She slammed the receiver down again. Of course all he wanted to do was talk about sex. He was a freaking criminal who’d been hard up for several years. He didn’t give a damn about Katie, and she was a damned fool for ever believing that he did.

Chapter 1
Mia.

The ache blooming in Mia’s depths had become such a relentless presence in her life—a bone-deep ache meant to remind her each morning as she woke of the hell that she would soon come to endure again. As she removed the covers from her bruised body, she took in her flesh. Black and blue bruises dotted her legs and thighs, morphing into faded marks; a red and raw bracelet of rope burns circled her ankles. An ache developed in her chest as she took in the state of her body. However, Mia didn’t have time to think of the misery that had become her life. Glancing at the clock that read six a.m., she knew she had a limited amount of time to shower, dress, and get breakfast ready.

Standing, Mia limped to the restroom and showered, tracing the bandage covering the stitches on her side as she lathered as best as she could. She closed her eyes as she placed a hand on her quivering stomach and slowly lowered her hand to clean between her legs. He left his marks on her again, but this time it wasn’t the usual bite, bruise, or cut. This time, he actually lost control and came inside of her, leaving her filled with his seed. The expression of pure ecstasy on his face as he consumed her had astonished her. Nothing she did ever pleased him, not even while he raped her, but last night was different. The tides had changed, and with the metamorphosis came a darkness she sensed she wouldn’t survive. His anger, loathing, and hate were the only emotions she’d wrought from him and nothing more.

Last night, the glint in his eyes as he pushed inside of her body made her stomach clench. She was never allowed to close her eyes because doing so always elicited his large hands around her neck until she passed out. At first, itbeen a mercy on his end to take her away from her suffering, but soon he realized his error of permitting her the unconscious reprieve, and the last time, she woke up covered in even more bruises. So, no, nothing she ever did elicited anything but pure rage from him … except the horror in her eyes as he came inside of her. Pure unadulterated fear had lanced through her at the thought of carrying his child.

There were things that used to horrify Mia. In the past, reading the newspaper or watching the news about missing women, Mia felt empathy for the victims, but it’d never been more than a glancing emotion. The possibility of seeing her face on CNN had never made it into the realm of possibility for Mia. No, she didn’t think herself invincible, but out of reach and safe. After the first abduction, that small world had shattered and her old life became shards of glass, too sharp and small to place back together. She’d awaited rescue to no avail. No one was coming for her, they mocked. She was so green, naïve, and fearless. That was until the first rape.

She’d feared rape and death. No woman, no matter how brave, lived without the fear of rape. Perhaps there were some who prepared for the likelihood of it happening, so their fear would lessen, but Mia had never been one of those women. And maybe, this was why she became such an easy target. After months in a shack, used and abused, death and rape had no longer become a fear, but the norm. Soon, her worst enemy became time. How much longer would they let her live? When would they tire of her, and when they did, where would they dispose of her body? Would her family claim her bones or would they see her ravished body? How would it embarrass her father?

Take a peek at Few Are Angels!

I opened my mouth to speak, but realized in my haste to yell at him, I hadn’t thought of exactly what to say. Kale released a sigh and waited for the bombardment of words to be unleashed. I remained silent. I rammed my fingers through my hair, completely destroying the ponytail I’d perfected earlier. I pulled the elastic band off and allowed my hair to fall in layers down my back and around my face. Kale’s body stiffened, and his eyes morphed into burnished black pools of liquid. The muscles in his jaw clenched and released as he sniffed the air. He literally sniffed the air. I looked around, but I knew we were alone except for Jace, and he was doing a perimeter check. Did Kale smell me, or was there something else out there? Kale drifted closer to me. His face was washed in the light the moon reflected off the snow. Harsh lines tainted his face as I watched him battle the urge to close the space between us. Using my better judgment for once in my life, I calmly started to move backward, earning me a sly smirk from Kale.

“Um, is everything okay?” I stuttered, trying to tamp down my worry. Kale had never looked at me like that, not even when we kissed, and it scared me.

His face was beautiful, but as the moon cast a glow on his skin, I saw Kale was interested in more than just a kiss. Another icy breeze wafted past us, ruffling my hair and sending a shiver down my spine as I realized Kale could smell my hair. The wind blew my fragrance to him, branding his senses with my scent. Quickly, I reached for the elastic band on my wrist and went to control my freed locks. Kale groaned low in his throat, stopping midway through the action.

“Ah, but you smell so…” He took another deep breath and stared at me with his obsidian eyes.

I quickly pulled my hair up into a messy ponytail and pulled my hat over my head. I hoped it was enough, but it seemed all it took was one scent to release the predator in Kale. It was odd; Kale had never before cared about my scent. What was so different tonight?

“See, all better. Right?” I asked, with still a trace of fear.

He hadn’t stopped his lazy gait toward me, but I stopped as my back hit a tree.

“Kale, are you okay? I have never seen you like this.”

Kale smiled wider, revealing what he had spent so long hiding from me. His teeth were mesmerizingly white, and his fangs were revealed. They peeked at me, scaring me with the promise of pain. Kale’s smile shined brighter and made me want to walk toward him, but I didn't. I knew better.

Kale cocked his head to the side and asked, “You have never seen me like what?” His voice was like music to my ears, causing my heart to speed up. I could feel each and every beat as my heart pumped blood throughout my body.

“Like you want to eat her for dinner,” Jace said, out of nowhere, answering Kale’s question for me.

Immediately Kale’s vision cleared, and he shook his head. He looked at me, confused. Jace appeared in my line of sight just behind Kale with a silver stick in his hand. At first glance the stick looked harmless, but as my vision focused, I realized what Jace was holding.

“Jeez, no!” I ran between Kale and Jace. “What are you doing, and what is that?” I asked, unable to take my eyes off of that damned shiny stick.

“He means to kill me with it.” When Kale finally spoke, his voice was no longer like a Siren’s call, but its normal, warm timbre.

I sighed in relief and spared a glance back at him, examining his eyes. They were still dark, but nothing like before. Jace moved forward, and his footsteps on the fresh snow were eerily quiet. I watched his feet as they moved toward me, finally meeting their destination. He stopped and looked at me.

“I mean to protect you,” Jace said, giving me a hard, appraising look. “When was the last time you fed, diseased one?” Not once did he release me from his ice blue stare.

I flinched at the words that came from Jace’s mouth. Even though Kale had scared me, I wasn’t about to let Jace use that against him.

“Kale, his name is Kale,” I said.

Jace inclined his head, acknowledging my correction, but didn't modify his words. He waited for Kale to answer him.

I turned to Kale, torn between wanting to know the answer and waiting to respect his privacy. Kale stood still as a bronze statue, keeping his body taut and his eyes trained on the silver stake.

“It’s none of your concern,” Kale answered.

I pushed aside my disappointment. I thought I at least deserved the answer because I was the one who got the “hungry eyes” stare down. “Put the stake away,” I quietly commanded Jace. “Everything is okay now.”

Jace placed the stake on his belt under his coat without protest.

My worry slightly dissipated. I assumed if Jace thought Kale was a threat, he wouldn’t have put away his weapon so readily.

“So, Princezná, what’s the plan?”
